- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 10 to 20 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 750 milliliter bottle dry red wine
- Bring water and sugar to a boil to dissolve the sugar.
- Reduce heat, add whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and orange juice, then simmer for 1 minute.
- Reduce the heat further and add wine, and barely simmer for 20 minutes to several hours.
- Ladle into small mugs.
