This cocktail was named after the 1972 movie The Godfather which starred Marlon Brando and won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Writing. While the cocktail never appeared in the movie, the Italian amaretto liqueur brand Disaronno, new to the United States, marketed that Marlon Brando drank Scotch and amaretto while on set. It wasn’t true but the marketing campaign was a huge success.

Swapping Scotch for different spirits has created an entire family of cocktails. For a more complex cocktail, use both amaretto liqueur and orange liqueur.

• Godfather – Scotch
• The Boss – bourbon
• The Big Boss – high proof bourbon
• Godmother – vodka

1. Add ingredients to a lowball glass.
2. Stir for 30 seconds.

• 1/2 oz Cointreau orange liqueur
• 1/2 oz amaretto liqueur
• 2 oz spirit
• Large format ice
