From 1920 to 1933, the United States National Prohibition Act banned the making, selling, and transporting of alcohol. Bootleggers stepped in, often making lesser quality spirits. To improve the taste of gin, this cocktail was invented in the 1920s. It tasted so good it got the name, Bee’s Knees, which was a slang term for excellent, outstanding, or the best. The recipe below replaces the honey syrup with Drambuie liqueur.

• 3/4 oz lemon juice
• 3/4 oz Drambuie liqueur
• 2 oz gin

1. Chill a lowball or a coupe glass.
2. Add ingredients to a shaker with some ice and shake.
3. Strain into glass.
