Manhattan

It is believed that the Manhattan cocktail was created in the late 1860s or early 1870s in New York City at the Manhattan Club. Several recipes appear below. The instructions to make the cocktails are the same.

Instructions

  1. Chill a coupe glass to serve “up” or a lowball glass to serve “on the rocks”.
  2. In a mixing glass, add all ingredients.
  3. Fill the mixing glass with ice and stir for 20-30 seconds until well-chilled and diluted.
  4. Strain into the coupe or lowball glass filled with ice.
  5. Garnish: dark cherry and lemon twist.
